The pattern for Day 6 on the DROPS Christmas Calendar is for a pair of socks, so I have substituted this Heart Basket pattern from the DROPS Christmas Workshop.
I have crocheted it as per the original pattern using a 4mm hook and DK yarn as before in Red and White.
Pattern using English terms from DROPS Christmas Workshop as follows:-
INCREASING TIP: Inc 1 st by working 2 ch at the end of row. On return row work 1 dc in second ch from hook.
DECREASING TIP: Dec 1 st by working 1 sl st in first dc on row.
WORK 2 TR TOG AS FOLLOWS:
Work 1 tr, but wait with last pull-through (= 2 sts on hook), work 1 tr in the same st, but wait with last pull-through = 3 sts on hook, make 1 YO and pull thread through all 3 sts on hook.
CROCHET TIP: Do not cut the thread when changing colour, but place yarn from colour you’re not using behind piece and crochet round this thread as well on next row.
HEART:
Work 7 ch with 2 threads red and crochet hook size 4 mm.
ROW 1: Work 1 dc in second ch from hook, then 1 dc in each ch = 6 dc, finish with 2 ch.
ROW 2: 1 dc in second ch from hook – SEE INCREASING TIP – then 1 dc in each dc, finish with 2 ch.
ROW 3-6: Like ROW 2 = 11 dc.
ROW 7: 1 dc in second ch from hook, 1 dc in each dc = 12 dc, turn with 1 ch.
ROW 8: 1 dc in each dc, turn with 1 ch.
ROW 9: 1 dc in each dc, turn with 3 ch
ROW 10: * 1 tr in first dc, work 2 tr tog in next dc – SEE ABOVE, 1 tr in next dc *. Change to 2 threads off-white – SEE CROCHET TIP, 1 ch, repeat from *-*. Change to red, 1 ch, repeat from *-*. Change to off-white, 1 ch, repeat from *-*, turn with 1 ch.
ROW 11: 1 dc in each of the first 3 sts. Change to red: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts. Change to off-white: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts. Change to red: 1 ch, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts = 12 dc. Change to off-white, finish with 3 ch.
ROW 12-17: Repeat ROW 10 and 11, but shift the colours to create a square pattern (off-white over red and red over off-white).
Cut the thread after the last row.
Now make the other arch:
ROW 18: Crochet with red: 3 dc in each square along one side = 12 dc, turn with 1 ch.
ROW 19-20: 1 dc in each dc, turn with 1 ch.
ROW 21: 1 sl st in first dc, 1 dc in each of the next dc = 11 dc.
ROW 22-26: Like ROW 21 – SEE DECREASING TIP = 6 dc.
Cut and fasten thread.
Crochet a border of sl sts round the whole heart with 2 threads red.
Make 1 more.
ASSEMBLY: Sew the 2 hearts tog, from the widest point on one side to the widest point on the other side.
HANDLE: Work 3 ch with 2 threads red, turn and work 1 dc in each st until piece measures approx 20 cm, cut the thread and sew handle ends to each heart on the inside at the top.
DECREASING TIP: Dec 1 st by working 1 sl st in first dc on row.
